Thor was an old rescue rat born inbetween october 2006 and october 2007 (no one knew his real age). He passed away April the 15th 2010 during his sleep... Good bye my little friend
This little guy was about to be killed by a breeder who wanted to get rid of all his breeding stock (over 60 rats). He came from the same rescue mission as my Bélial. All of them suffered from several diseases, many of them died because they had suffered too much and couldn't be healed anymore. I took six of these ratties home as a foster family and adopted two of them (Bélial and Thor). The four other ones have found great families, some of the ratties from the same rescue mission are still up for adoption in other foster families and animal shelters.
Thor was blind and suffered from chronical respiratory troubles. Although he was afraid of humans and "roared" when breathing when I took him home, he learnt to trust human beings and healed (but he remained blind). At the beginning, he couldn't move because he had lived in a very small box for over two years. He ended running everywhere after some months home and played with my hands and his rattie friends. He was also able to breathe without making noise anymore. Thor loved to explore my house although he could not see anything, he was one of the most curious rats ever. I would have NEVER imagined such a hurt rattie would heal that well and would learn to love humans... I loved him very much and I miss him... I know he has left peacefully though...

That remaid me of my little Shyera. My first pet rat... my girl past three year ago. She was sick, she was not able to move any more... I take her to vet, so she can sleep peacefully... In the night after that day I dream about her. She have brown-withe wings. She say: "Don't cry mommy! I'm ok now, nothing hurt anymore. We will see again! I promise."
why do breeders always seem to just get rid of the animals as if they are objects? i mean, they are cute fuzzy lovable rats, not frying pans. why are people always so mean to animals? i just dont get it.
What a heartwarming story! Thor was truly and deservedly loved at the end. Rats are much maligned creatures - they make affectionate and intelligent companions.
Thanks you for sharing such a heartwarming story. Thor is surely upon his rainbow bridge just now. Very awesome and excuse my rubbish words to describe a tale so touching.
This is a wonderful manipulation, and a touching story. I only wish I could do this on my own with a picture of my sister's rattie...
I can't help but remember something when I see "rainbow bridge", especially in here, with the symbolism behind it... When I was little, I used to play a computer game about My Little Pony ALL. THE. TIME. I still remember the name of my first pony on there... Pinky Pie. She was this pink little pony, and both my sister and I played with her on the game.
Anyway, in the game, when you trained your pony to a certain extent and taught them how to cross a bridge to go into the town, you were able to send them across a rainbow bridge to a city on clouds in the sky. My sister and I were so excited that Pinky Pie was finally able to cross the rainbow bridge, and we hurriedly sent her over... only to realize that once the pony crossed, they weren't coming back. Ever.
We were devastated, and our parents tell us they hated the computer game company for selling something that sent us through that much grief, even if we were only 3 and 5 (I think, at least) and it was a virtual pony.
Sorry for the random story for my past, but I knew that if I didn't explain why the "rainbow bridge" in the title sparked up a memory for me, I'd be forever wishing I had. I'm weird like that. >XD
You do such good work with saving all these little creatures I think it's lovely when an animal can revive from such awful conditions and die in a happy, loving home
I cry even now....
